“Latgale should use its opportunities entirely. That is why it is important to exchange the opinions about the matter of how the border regions of Latvia and Russia can cooperate in the field of transport and logistics” underlined the Chairwoman of Daugavpils City Council Rita Strode in the opening of the international conference “Transport and Logistics – Problems and Opportunities” that took place in Daugavpils on April 10.
In the conference it was talked about the transit facilities of border regions of Latvia and Russia. Its development perspectives were studied there, as well. The participants of the international conference highly appreciated the efforts made and work done while organizing conference. The materials of the conference “Transport and Logistics – Problems and Opportunities” will be summed up and published.
The conference was organized by the Latgale Region Development Agency in collaboration with Transport and Telecommunication Institute. “We hope that the conference and project in general will make a contribution in the elaboration of strategy concerning common spatial development of border Latvia – Russia as well as its results will help in formulating the most perspective directions of transport infrastructure development and defining tasks of high priority,” told Director of Latgale Region Development Agency Māris Bozovičs.
The conference “Transport and Logistics – Problems and Opportunities” was organized within the framework of the project “Remote access” “New Spatial Development Zone for Border Regions of Latvia and Russia – Connecting Potentials of Two Countries” of the cross-border programme INTERREG/TACIS. It was arranged by the support of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Latvia and the Ministry of Regional Development and Local Government in collaboration with Administrations of Pskov, Leningrad Oblasts and St. Petersburg City. The objective of the project is to develop potential of the common spatial zone. To provide the achievement of this goal, one of the project activities is working out the common spatial development strategy of Latgale and Vidzeme Regions, Pskov and Leningrad Oblasts.
“I liked that there was a mutual – real and concrete conversation in the conference. I hope that the issues touched upon in the conference will be solved – if we deal with them with a common strength and will that we, as I see, have,” acknowledged General Consul of Russian Federation to Daugavpils Nikolay Vihlayev.
